llms.txt

llms.txt is a simple text file at the root of a website that gives AI models a clean, curated summary of the site and its key pages. It's an emerging convention for helping assistants understand a brand accurately.

llms.txt is a plain-text file placed at the root of a website — like robots.txt, but written for AI. Instead of asking a model to infer what a company is from scattered marketing pages, it hands over a clean, curated summary: what the business does, who it’s for, and links to the pages that matter most, in a format that’s cheap for a model to read.

It’s an emerging convention rather than a settled standard, and no model is obliged to use it. But the thinking behind it is durable: as AI search and assistants become a real path to discovery, giving machines an accurate, first-party description of your brand is a low-cost way to reduce the odds they get you wrong. Our own lives at /llms.txt.

It’s one tactic within GEO, alongside structured data and a consistent presence across the web.
