Turning endless browsing into instant watching

The Context

At ZEE5, I was part of the Advertisement Design team, one of several product design teams working across the platform.

As user attention started shifting towards Reels, Shorts, and other short-form content, the company began exploring what the future of content discovery could look like. Around the same time, the proposed Sony-Zee merger was underway, and there was a strong focus on exploring new product directions for the platform.

I had the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Design and Chief Product Officer on a concept called Zee Next, a new way for users to discover and engage with content.

The Idea

The idea was simple.

Instead of making users browse through endless lists of movies and shows, we wanted them to instantly start watching short clips from content they might enjoy. Users could quickly swipe through videos, learn more about the movie or show, see the cast, read comments, and jump straight into the full content if something caught their attention.

I designed and prototyped the complete experience in Figma, covering onboarding, content discovery, recommendations, community interactions, and several new monetisation concepts.

Advertising That Belongs

One area I spent a lot of time exploring was how advertising could feel less disruptive and more relevant. This included ideas around contextual ads, commerce experiences linked to content, and new ways for brands to become part of the viewing experience instead of interrupting it.

Owning A Moment

I also proposed concepts around digital ownership, where users could collect and own memorable moments from content they loved and share them with others.

The project helped me think beyond individual screens and focus on how content, community, discovery, and business goals come together to create a product ecosystem.

Looking Back

While the initiative remained in the exploration stage, it was one of my first experiences working directly with senior leadership on a future-facing product vision and translating ideas into tangible experiences through design.
