Brand audit

A brand audit is a structured review of how a brand currently looks, sounds, and is perceived — against where the business wants to go. It tells you whether you need a refresh, a rebrand, or nothing at all.

A brand audit is a structured look at where a brand actually stands: how it presents visually, how it sounds, how consistent it is across touchpoints, how it stacks up against competitors, and — where possible — how customers actually perceive it. The output is an honest picture of the gap between the brand you have and the business you’re becoming.

It’s the sensible first step before spending on any brand work, because it tells you what kind of work you need. Sometimes the finding is that the identity is fine and the real problem is positioning or messaging; sometimes it’s that consistency has drifted and a tidy-up will do; sometimes it genuinely points to a rebrand. Skipping the audit is how companies spend on a shiny new logo that doesn’t fix the thing that was actually wrong.

It feeds directly into strategy. See how that unfolds in how we build a brand.

Quick recall

What is a brand audit? A structured review of how a brand looks, sounds, and is perceived, against where the business is heading.

Why do one? It tells you whether you need a refresh, a rebrand, or a fix to positioning — before you spend.

What’s the risk of skipping it? Paying for a new logo that doesn’t address the real problem.
